Reliance Digital has continued to expand its VoLTE enabled LYF smartphone lineup. Nearly five months after launching the LYF Wind 4, the company has now launched its successor called LYF Wind 4S. The new smartphone is priced at Rs 7,499 and brings upgrades compared to its predecessor including double amount of RAM and onboard storage. The LYF Wind 4S also brings slightly higher 5-megapixel selfie camera, compared to 2-megapixel one on its predecessor.
The LYF Wind 4S will be offered in three colors – black, brown and blue. The company has added metal front and a textured back cover to offer a comfortable grip while holding the smartphone. The volume rocker and power / sleep buttons are placed on the right panel, whereas the microUSB port is placed on the top. The company has also added gesture control support, allowing you to quickly access your apps directly from the lock screen. You can swipe up to unlock, slide down to open camera, slide right to choose messages and slide left to open any custom app of your choice. You can even draw ‘c’ to open dialer, ‘m’ to start Play Music, ‘o’ to access contacts and ‘e’ to start gallery. That’s not all; you also get DTS audio support to optimize the volume while watching movies and music for extra clarity.
Reliance Digital LYF Wind 4S specifications
The smartphone features a 5-inch HD (720p) IPS LCD display with pixel density of 293ppi. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 210 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.3GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 304 GPU. With 16GB of onboard storage, a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 128GB is also present.In the photography department, you get an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and HD video recording support. There is also a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. Armed with a 4,000mAh battery, connectivity options on the smartphone include dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE connectivity with VoLTE voice calling support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11n and GPS. The smartphone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box.
At its price point the smartphone will compete with the likes of such as the Xiaomi Redmi 3s, which is priced at Rs 6,999, Lenovo Vibe K5, which is priced at Rs 6,999 and Micromax Canvas Unite 4 Pro, which is priced at Rs 7,499. All three competitors feature 5-inch HD display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage with microSD card slot and connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS.
The Vibe K5 is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 415 octa-core processor, features a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. It is armed with a 2,750mAh battery and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out of the box. The Redmi 3s is powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, features a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF, LED flash and full HD video recording, along with a 5-megapixel selfie snapper. Armed with a 4,100mAh battery, the smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8 OS out of the box. The smartphone also supports VoLTE voice calling support, something that is missing from other two competitors.
Lastly, there is Canvas Unite 4 Pro which is powered by a 1.3GHz Spedtrum quad-core processor, features an 8-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel selfie snapper. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop based Indus OS 2.0 with support for 12 regional languages such as Marathi, Hindi, Bengali, Oria, Urdu, Guajarati, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil among others. The smartphone features a 3,900mAh battery.
LYF smartphones once had an edge over the competition with 4G LTE and VoLTE support, but other manufacturers are also adding the VoLTE support to their smartphones. Also, the once exclusive Jio Preview / Welcome Offer to LYF smartphones is now open it to other brands as well. Overall, the Redmi 3s looks like a better deal as it is priced slightly less compared to LYF Wind 4S, comes with better camera resolution and latest Android Marshmallow OS.
